The main event of the Los Cabos Open of Surf is held at the world-famous Zippers surf spot, located at the Costa Azul bridge in San Jose Del Cabo. Zippers at Costa Azul is mainly a right point beach break and breaks best on solid south swell and a medium tide. Along with tasting Los Cabos’ local cuisine, attendees at this year’s event will enjoy live music on the beach from bands such as Pepper and Kinky.

The Los Cabos Open Of Surf is partnering with the Alana Blanchard Foundation this year. Alana Blanchard will be working with a specialized panel of surf experts, to discover and determine which female surfers have the level of talent necessary, but not the level of financial support, to excel at the highest levels of the sport. Selected athletes will be given an ABF sponsorship to help them to achieve their goals in the sport of surfing. We caught up with Alana to get some insight leading up to the big event.

"Cabo is unique in that it has miles of undeveloped coastlines to explore. The beach breaks are similar to Southern California, yet the summer and fall water temps are similar to Hawaii. Cabo offers surf for beginners to advanced surfers, all within a short drive of town. It’s a pretty special place to surf," Alana commented about the surfing experience in Cabo.

Los Cabos has been a favorite destination for traveling surfers since the early 70's and one visit and you will know why. Los Cabos is home to an endless variety of waves to choose from as well as plenty of extracurricular activities for out-of-water fun. The short flight from Southern California makes Los Cabos a great weekend trip or if you truly want to enjoy all this town has to offer, a week might not even do the trick. Beautiful year-round weather, inviting local culture and cuisine, world class fishing, incredible resorts, and of course, epic surf. With South Swell season coming in hot this will only enhance Mexico’s biggest surf event.

"This event has always been a favorite of mine which I why I chose to partner with it and launch the Alana Blanchard Foundation there this year. Fun waves, a very fun and interactive beach scene, evening events, and of course surfing action from some of the best female surfers and pro juniors in the world," Alana said.

"This event is special because it is one of the only Women's 6000 events on the qualifying tour. It draws the top female surfers from around the world. Boardwalk Productions and the Los Cabos Tourism Board create a super-premium event experience where most of the competitors make it into a vacation with family and friends because it’s their favorite place to go all year," Alana said.

"Los Cabos is a beautiful place. It has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, the people are awesome, and there’s some of the best hotels and restaurants in the world. When I was competing on tour, it was important for me to compete in this event for the ratings points, but now I come because it's fun, and I have such a great time being with friends and support the girls that are competing," Alana said.
