ENO Wine Bar’s Summer Patio Review – Come Give a Toast to Summer!

ENO’s newly refreshed patio is situated just off of Michigan Avenue, in the heart of the Magnificent Mile in Chicago’s historical Intercontinental Hotel. This summer, the wine bar has launched al fresco lunch service with an elevated menu of salads, sandwiches and thin crust pizzas.

Set on bustling Michigan Avenue, ENO has delighted Windy City leisure travelers, business executives, and date-night couples with a warm and unpretentious alternative to the typical Chicago wine bars. ENO creates a sultry yet relaxed ambiance – reminding guests of an intimate wine cellar. Upon entry, you'll spot  delicious cheese and chocolate displays. As you're shown to your table, glass-enclosed wine racks containing our award-winning selections surround you. ENO offers superb wines, an outstanding international menu of cheeses, and a tasty host of handmade chocolate truffles.

On Tuesday, August 1st, I joined ENO for a summer soiree on the patio to enjoy bites from the new menu, and sipped on unique wines perfect for the summer. With ENO being my favorite wine, cheese and chocolate bar in the city, I knew I was right at home while sitting on the patio, eating delicious food and drinking fabulous wines.

The delicious bites offered to sample included a charcuterie board of various cheeses (Roth Kase-a blue cheese; Widmer-a sharp cheddar; Mont Amore-a lovely, salty parmesan), and meats (Nostrano salami and Coppa) served with bread. There were also baby cheese burger sliders with gherkin pickles on top, crab meat crostinis, sautéed shrimp, delicious flatbreads (salumi, marinara and mozzarella; spinach, fontina, truffle tremor and garlic), and beautiful rainbow colors of fresh fruit kabobs with honey and basil. Blissful-tasting desserts consisted of a decadent selection of and fresh fruit and chocolate mini tarts.

Besides the food selections, there were the wines themselves to taste, which boasted flights of ENO’s finest summer roses, along with my favorites Figueirasse Gris de Gris and Maculan, Merlot, Breganze, whites and reds. I fell in love with two roses (Flight RoseAllDay) from Spain and France. The whites (Flight: HolyCatalunya) revealed lovely, bone dry selections such as Cellar Clua, Garnaxta Blano, Terra Alta and Mas Rodo, Montonega, Penedes. The reds (Flight rightfully called The Godfather) for me personally upstaged all the wine that was there that evening. Each kind was wonderfully dry, robust and full of flavor, such as Centonze, Frappato, Sicily and Malvira Langhe Nebbiolo, Piedmont.

Experiencing ENO’s revamped outdoor patio was a delightful experience. If you are a lover of wine, food, chocolate and dining alfresco in Chicago, then ENO’s wine bar outdoor patio is a perfect place to give a toast to summer.
